Bekker Transport aims to provide an efficient, stress-free service so that you can feel certain your cargo is going to arrive in good time and in good shape. Please take the time to flick through these guidelines to remind yourself of what you can do to contribute to the best outcome.
PROVIDE ACCURATE DIMENSIONS!
If you are vague about your load dimensions, there is the risk that your costs might be blown out because the load is overwidth, or there just isn’t enough deckspace available because you’ve underestimated the dimensions.
Dimensions are recorded as length x width x height.
Dimensions are taken from the widest point on one side to the widest point on the other side. Include any components that extend beyond the base or higher than main body of the item, for example:
- Gutters on buildings;
- Aerial on tractor cab roof;
- Rear view mirrors of vehicle;
- Hubs for dual wheels;
- Support brackets on Air-seeder.
ANY LOAD GREATER THAN 2.5 WIDE IS OVER-DIMENSIONAL. LOADS GREATER THAN 3.5 WILL REQUIRE AN ESCORT, OR NUMBER OF ESCORTS. BEKKER TRANSPORT CARRIES LOADS UP TO <3.5M WIDE.
To find dimensions of a large machine:
- The vendor has a legal obligation to provide you with accurate details – request that they measure the load.
- To support your role in CoR, you may like to direct them to this guide to ensure they understand requirements
- If this is impossible, you may ‘Google’ Ritchie’s Specs Online and key in your machine make and serial number OR search online for the manufacturers’ specifications. Please ensure you convert to metric.
- ENSURE YOU HAVE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT ANY ADDITIONAL FIXTURES NOT RECORDED IN STANDARD MODEL.
TO BE SURE TO BE SURE
Secure all loose components with cable ties or wire
Bundles of pipe, timber or panels etc must be bound securely with crimped strapping. Plastic strap with ‘shoe-buckle’ crimps is not suitable.
Any equipment seated on a pallet must be secured to the pallet with cable ties or strapping. If you are stacking items, secure them together.
PLASIWRAP IS NOT AN ADEQUATE MATERIAL TO SECURE LOOSE ITEMS
It is NOT TO BE USED unless all items within the load have been adequately secured and it is taped so as to avoid any possibility of the wrap becoming loose
Bekker Transport may refuse to load equipment that is plasi-wrapped unless it is also taped
USE PROTECTION
Cover any gauges or parts that may be damaged by wind pressure or vibration with weather-proof reinforcing material and tape securely.
If you are sending a vehicle or boat that you want protected from dust or stone chips, cover it with a well-secured custom sleeve.
Let the driver know if you are concerned about paintwork so carpet strapliners or other soft guards can be used.
TO BE SURE TO BE SURE
Ensure all components are connected to main item or pallet
This PTO linkage was connected to pallet at the outer column, but inner shaft was not. It nearly didn’t make the trip.
If your machine has a turbo, you may be advised to cover the exhaust pipe if it is front-facing.
Strap ‘suicide doors’ to avoid them blowing open.
Cable-tie keys to the steering wheel; ensure compartment doors are taped closed.
Ensure any machines, plant or frames are structurally sound so they can sustain the wind pressure and pressure of tie-down straps or chains.
Machinery must have all hoses sealed and secured and any fluid leaks contained.
